Upper Riverside Balconies
Upper Riverside is a high-end residential project located on the eastern side of the Greenwich Peninsula development.
Each of the five prism-shaped towers of the project features three steppes that angle downwards towards the river and together with widely-used glass facades, these offer stunning views of the river.
As well as having two gyms, a private cinema, roof gardens, a steam room and one of London’s highest pools, Upper Riverside also features integrated aluminium balconies. It was decided that the balconies would be fully fabricated and assembled off-site so they would only require fixing to the structure with bolts once delivered.
The Challenges
Raaft had to work with the balcony manufacturer to ensure the Raaft Terrafina solid composite decking could be successfully fitted to the balconies before they were delivered to the site and would cause no issues occurred during the installation of the balconies.
The Installation
The fixing of the decking to the balconies to increase its resistance to wind uplift and the installation of the balconies were completed smoothly with no issues concerning the product or installation. Due to the complete assembly of the finished balconies off-site, they only required bolting into position.
Products Used
Surfaces: Raaft Terrafina Plain Grey Brown
The Result
Terrafina solid composite decking gives a highly realistic representation of natural stained timber yet is a highly durable, slip resistant surface that neither rots nor splinters. This will ensure a safe and attractive finish for many years to come, and as the decking is secured firmly in position there is little risk of uplift should it be exposed to gusts and high winds.
Preassembling the balconies before they were delivered to the site so they merely required bolting into position also minimised the time spent by the installers at height and on site.
